Mauser M25: A Game-Changer in Straight-Pull Bolt-Action Rifles

Mauser M25: A Game-Changer in Straight-Pull Bolt-Action Rifles

For weeks, anticipation had been building for one of the most eagerly awaited hunting rifle releases of the season. The moment finally arrived —January 28 at 10:30 AM.

A Tuesday morning—an unusual choice, unless you look at the international hunting trade fair calendar. The German event Jagd & Hund was chosen as the global stage for the unveiling of the new straight-pull bolt-action rifle, the Mauser M25.

The Bolt: The Core of It All

Manual bolt-action rifles have increasingly focused on achieving the smoothest, simplest, and fastest reloading possible. Eliminating rotating bolt heads and locks has been the solution adopted by some of the industry's top manufacturers. The Mauser Spread-Lock 250 patented bolt is the heart of this rifle. As seen in the following image, it features two lugs that lock positively twice at 125 degrees each (for a total of 250 degrees) with a contact surface of 66 mm2.

To enhance the reloading speed envisioned by Mauser’s engineers, the bolt handle has been positioned right above the trigger, adjustable between 700 and 1,700 grams. This makes bolt operation more intuitive with less movement required after pulling the trigger—an ergonomically logical approach for follow-up shots.

Safety Mechanism

The rifle features a two-position safety with an additional bolt release function, allowing the user to open the bolt while the safety is engaged.

Magazine

The detachable magazine is made of polymer and holds 3 rounds in the standard version. A higher-capacity option holding 5 rounds is also available.

Barrel

The barrel is cold-forged from special steel. To ensure durability in harsh conditions, Mauser applies a new plasma-oxide coating, providing both wear and corrosion resistance. The muzzle comes factory-threaded for a suppressor.

Available Calibers

Mauser representatives confirm that the rifle is currently available in .308 and .243 calibers across three different models.

  • Xtreme: Designed for the most demanding hunters who plan to use the Mauser M25 in extreme conditions. Built with a highly durable polymer stock, this model is available in black or green finishes for approximately €1,750.
It measures 100.5 cm and weighs 3.2 kg.

  • Pure: For traditional hunters who appreciate wood stocks and Mauser’s classic designs. The straight-combed walnut stock with an ergonomic grip blends timeless aesthetics with the innovation of a straight-pull bolt-action system.
    Priced around €1,850.
Dimensions are identical to the Xtreme model: 100.5 cm in length and 3.2 kg in weight.

  • Max: A laminated beechwood version featuring a thumbhole stock and adjustable cheek rest, prioritizing comfort, ergonomics, and stability.
Length: 100 cm, weight: 3.6 kg.
    Price: €1,950.

Additional calibers will be available starting in early summer. The first to arrive will be 7mm RM and .300 WM, followed by .30-06 and 8x57 later in the season.
