Thirsty and dehydrated roe deer: one enters a car wash and another is rescued by a child

Two recent videos highlight the difficulties animals such as roe deer face during an excessively dry and hot summer. In both situations they encounter people who help them in very different ways.

Corzos sedientos

The first case takes us to a car wash. The male roe deer, a young animal visibly affected by the intense heat, approaches a vehicle-washing station. The smell of the water becomes irresistible when thirst becomes unbearable. The car-wash customer understands the situation and proceeds to cool the animal with the water hose.

A girl gives her water to a motionless roe deer—and this happens

This girl lives in the inland region of southern France. Together with her father, she helps countless animals during the summer by placing and maintaining artificial waterers when water is most needed in the wild. But on this occasion, just a few days ago, she came across a roe deer unable to move. The animal looked as though it was suffering from severe dehydration.

For this reason, she approached the small deer very slowly, without disturbing it. Holding a bottle of water, she poured a little onto its muzzle and saw it drink, so she continued. We soon see the roe deer react, open its eyes fully and adopt a much more natural posture.

Although the vast majority of comments praise this action, several nature-conservation experts and users on platforms recall the importance of exercising caution. They warn that a frightened wild animal may react unpredictably and injure a child.

At the same time, the case going viral has prompted the media to remind people of the recommendation to place containers of water in the shade in woodlands, gardens and on balconies, so that birds, mammals and insects can drink safely without having to approach humans or even fall into swimming pools during the weeks and months when water is scarce and temperatures are higher.
