The enormous wild boar causing a stir in a city in Brazil

The local press calls them javaporcos, a term used to refer to animals resulting from a cross between both species: wild boar and domestic pig. And they highlight residents’ concern over the presence of an animal of enormous size walking through the streets of the municipality of Soledade, which has more than 30,000 inhabitants and is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Wild boars are now daring to enter cities

The images, provided by a local shopkeeper, show two wild boars roaming the Fontes neighborhood, worrying both residents and shopkeepers who fear a run-in with these animals. The presence of wild boars in rural areas has already been a problem suffered for decades, also in this South American country, considerably damaging local agriculture. But in situations of this kind, in which wild and feral suids enter urban areas, a safety alert is created for the population.

After that video was published, local media and social networks began posting new images of the same animals walking unconcernedly on the town’s asphalt roads and sidewalks, increasing that sense of concern among the population, mainly due to the risk of accidents and the possibility of attacks if the animals feel threatened. To this end, the authorities have recommended not approaching them, feeding them, or making sudden movements that could lead the animals to feel cornered, with special care in the case of children and pets.
