A chamois that suddenly entered a private garden ended up needing rescue after it misjudged a jump while trying to escape and fell into the homeowner’s swimming pool.
The incident happened on Monday, June 15, at around 11 a.m. According to the first witness, the owner of the house, the animal appeared without warning while he was preparing his barbecue.
“I was cleaning the barbecue when I saw it go past like an arrow, jump and land right in the middle of my pool,” he said.
Firefighters called to rescue the chamois
The chamois tried repeatedly to get out of the water but was unable to climb free. Unsure how to deal with the unusual situation, the homeowner called the emergency services.
A firefighting crew arrived at the property shortly afterwards. Using a rope and a cage, they managed to lift the wild bovid from the pool and place it in a secure area so it could be examined for injuries.
Once out of the water, the animal was wrapped in towels to help it dry off and calm down. After checks confirmed that it was not injured, it was taken to a natural area with a sizeable population of chamois and released back into the wild.
